How should you prepare to go abroad?

  • Check with your host university; many universities provide admitted students with a list of items to bring and ways to prepare for their upcoming semester abroad. You can research:
    • Applying for accommodation and move-in
    • Transportation to the university
    • School requirements and registration
    • Other country-specific topics
  • Talk to Peer Advisors in the Study Abroad office and other returnees at SDSU

Traveler's checklist

Review the U.S. Department of State Traveler’s Checklist before you go! You'll find reminders about:

  • Travel alerts and warnings
  • Preparing for emergencies
  • Packing
  • Health and safety
  • And much more

Make copies of your documents

The Traveler's Checklist recommends that you make 2 photocopies of all your travel documents in case of emergency or if your documents are lost or stolen. Leave one copy with a friend or relative at home. Carry the other copy with you, stored separately from the originals. Documents to copy should at minimum include your passport, student visa, travel itinerary, and hotel confirmation.
